From the Great Beyond!

Journal Entry: Sat Apr 27, 2013, 5:53 PM
Er, I guess I'm still here.

Sorry as the only excuse is that I am still swamped with work. But um, I still want to draw a lot! It makes me sad that drawing for fun is such a rarity since after a long day of work art I don't have energy to come home and do more.

But yeah! Um, I finally got a tumblr!

[link]

There's nothing on there yet! But follow me if you'd like! I'll be posting this and that and probably stupid sketches rather than more finished work here.

Also, I'll be at Fanime Con!

So uh... visit me! :)

And yeah, I need to catch up on notes, and deviations, and art... I always thought I'd never be one of those artists who would leave their account so stagnant due to real life. Now I understand. I do. I do. T.T

Will make an effort to be less dead. You guys are so awesome. Always.

Raindrops Fans are Amazing...I mean...CRAZY

Journal Entry: Sun Feb 24, 2013, 10:03 PM
I really mean it, you guys... I'm always impressed with how much support my fancomic gets. I still get tons of feedback from it all the time, and daily notes asking for its' update. Sometimes, I get notes from fans who are overly passionate, or maybe not so polite. Sometimes they are just awkward, albeit very charming...

But you guys...

You guys, THIS ONE.

This. TAKES. THE. CAKE. I don't even...

It was so unbelievable, I have to tell you.

So a couple of days ago I checked my DA Notes and there was a pile of messages waiting for me. I haven't been able to check DA often as of late due to work and the fact that my Computer has been dying and I've been trying to avoid using it as much as possible until my new Computer arrives. ANYWAY, I was surprised to find a note from my friend, ~masa-kocha. I opened it, and this is what it said:

She also happened to be my coworker, and sat like... right across from me. Curiouser and curiouser why she would note me instead of just asking me directly. So when I asked her about it she looked confused.

"I didn't send you a note on Deviantart!"

"What? But this is you, right?"

I pointed bemusedly to the screen. She looked horrified. It couldn't be...

A FAKE! AN IMPOSTER!!!

!maza-kocha was going around impersonating ~masa-kocha

Go! Go look for yourself!!! *rolls around*

We clicked on their DA page, and even their DA page was almost an exact replica of my friend's DA. Her deviations, all of her details, even her own photo was there. The only thing was that their name was off by one-letter-- a Z instead of an S in Masa-Kocha.

We wondered if this person was possibly an art thief. But my friend is primarily a photographer and told me that people usually didn't try to pretend to be the cosplay photographer. They usually want to claim that they are the cosplayer in the photos. So why take her identity? Upon closer inspection we also realized that the imposter only uploaded enough onto their gallery so that it their main page would fill up and look like it was authentic (even their deviations copied and pasta'd the original description). There was no other activity other than the one note that they sent me apparently, and no other uploads or comments.

Which leads me to one...bizarre conclusion.

This fan, wanted me to update "Raindrops" so badly, that they went through the trouble of pretending to be my friend (whom I had mentioned in the past was a co-worker) and set up a FAKE page (with quite a bit of effort) all just to do one thing: Send me a Note to tell me to update.

Guys.

Guys.

You guys are NUTS. Everyone on the art team was thoroughly impressed with the lengths my fans will go through. Surely you must realize I talk to my friend on daily basis since we work together, right? It was embarrassing, it was terrifying and unbelievable...

It was.

Really quite hilarious.

Whoever did this... You have some balls. I am THOROUGHLY impressed by your dedication, your devotion, your ZEAL for my fancomic. I APPLAUD you, crazy, CREEPY fan. Those who have doubted my stories about overzealous fans have turned into believers. This is a quite the tale I can tell around the watercooler...for YEARS to come. In some strange way, it's flattering to know how much my work is supported.

Just for you, I'll work on my Raindrops a little bit faster. FYI though, this doesn't change the fact that I'll still update when I want and when I have the time, so please don't go stealing my friend's identities anymore.

But really, please take everything down and deactivate the fake account or something or we'll have to report you...because it really freaks my friend out. lol.

Journal Entry: Tue Nov 13, 2012, 11:28 PM
Hey guys! Guess what? I'm still here! Just super swamped with work!

But NOW you can finally see one of the projects (and reasons) why I barely have time to update work here! (lol)

Dragon Collection (The International Version) has finally been released for the Apple iOS in the United States! So if you have an iphone/pod/pad/whatever apple-y thing...GO PLAY IT!

Dragon Collection is the original mobile trading card game that spawned many other similar games after.

Our team worked very hard so it would mean a lot to me if you guys check it out ^^ I'm super proud of all my super talented coworkers!

:bulletgreen: Get it on the app store (IT'S FREE!) [link]

:bulletgreen: Check out our facebook fanpage! [link]

Tell us what you think! :)

Android version will also be released soon! You can also find it on the Canadian itunes store if you're in Canada!

Trivia

- If you played the Canadian release and participated in the Halloween Event, the witch, Sandra, that got her candy stolen was named after me by the JP team. You can also see a pic of her in the Facebook page.

- If you're currently participating in the Harvest Event and are collecting HAND TURKEYS to get a Tuxedo Turkey Monster, it's actually traced using my hand >.<

Calling all Canadians!

Journal Entry: Tue Aug 21, 2012, 10:07 PM
"Dragon Collection," (The International Edition) the game that I've been working for at Konami, was just released for the Canadian iTunes APP store! Dragon Collection was the social mobile trading card game in Japan that was a super huge success, and spawned many similar card games from other companies in its' wake, and it's finally releasing internationally.

So if you're in Canada, and own an iphone/pad/pod, please download it and check it out! It's FREE to play! I would really appreciate it! *bows*

Dragon Collection will soon be releasing for the U.S. so look out for it!

Thank you!

Yu-Gi-Oh Shameless Plug...

Journal Entry: Thu Aug 2, 2012, 9:26 PM
Yeah... shameless plug for my company. Play Yu-Gi-OH BAM! on Facebook! [link]

I am actually one of those weird people who works at a Game company but doesn't play games (and actually most of my fellow artist coworkers at Konami are like this lolol IRONY) but I actually really like this one. And I don't even watch/read/play Yu-Gi-Oh the trading card game. PLAY IT!!! :D

You don't have to know anything about Yu-Gi-Oh card rules to play it. It makes it easy to understand :)

My nod to the awesome Yu-Gi-Oh division for doing a fantastic job!

Fictionpress Plagiarizes WiLLOW >>UPDATE!

Journal Entry: Thu May 17, 2012, 2:16 PM
EDIT!
So it seems that the author, removed and abandoned her account, but in a rather unapologetic and tantrum-like way. She swore never to write again because she couldn't understand why people were upset that she used my idea. So basically, I don't even know if I can call this a victory on my part because she didn't learn her lesson nor understood the seriousness and repercussions of Plagiarism. Oh well.

Thanks everyone for your support!

---

Haaa this is funny.

It was brought to my attention that some author on fictionpress blatantly stole my original short comic story  "WiLLOW" as her own.

:bulletgreen: Here is MY comic (first published 2008):  [link]

:bulletblue: And here is THEIR story (published 2011): [link]

Note that the first two chapters are almost exactly word for word script-wise. The only difference is that they changed the character names. After this, the author goes on to make her own story and abuse my characters, but HELLO?!

That still doesn't make it okay. I find it flattering, but mostly hilarious. I also don't care if she decides to credit me WAY WAY LATER. She didn't ask me permission IN THE FIRST PLACE which still makes it plagiarism.

I already put in a report, so there's no need for you to go on my behalf. HOWEVER  I don't know if there are any other stories that this author stole from to incorporate into her own "fiction" so if you spot something that you recognize from other people, don't be afraid to make a report!

I also tried contacting the author directly, but unfortunately cannot do so without getting an account (which I don't want to do) and they didn't leave any email. So for now I have to rely on the admins.

:bulletred: TO MAKE A REPORT:
Simply scroll all the way down, and under the "Add Story to Favorites" tab, mark it as "Report for Abuse."

IF YOU MAKE A COMMENT/LEAVE A REVIEW: Please, no matter how justified you feel, be civil and polite in your comments. There's no use for hurtful bashing.

Sakura Con + Update on Life!

Journal Entry: Thu Apr 5, 2012, 10:55 AM
Helloooooooo I'm still alive!

And I'll be at Sakura Con in Seattle this weekend so stop on by the artist alley and say Hi if you're going to be around! Table 211! :3

There will be prints! And pony buttons! And snark from me!

If you miss me at Sakura Con you can catch me at AM2 in Anaheim or Anime Expo in Los Angeles in June!

Also, I know that I said that I'd be back with more artwork and Raindrops around this time. Well, as it turns out... Maybe the wait might be longer. Konami is having me travel back to the San Mateo office for an additional two weeks, and then after that... there's a very good chance that they will be sending me to work in Japan for a month or so.

Hopefully I will get some time in between to do some artwork, but I apologize if you don't hear from me in a while.

And then after THAT... There's a chance I might be moving to San Mateo permanently. WHEN WILL I GET A BREAK?!

The sesskag group will still be running, although sporadically. I will try to update it this Monday. If it's too much for me to handle I might have a call for new admins for the group to run it while I'm away. ):

Super Busy!

Journal Entry: Wed Mar 14, 2012, 11:28 PM
Ahhhh okay so I know it seems that I haven't been updating much and at the same time club updates the sesskag group has been static. And here's why! So currently I am sitting in San Mateo, flown out here from LA for work related Konami business. It was only supposed to last a week, but I found out today that I will be staying here for an additional two weeks. Which means I won't be back home officially until the end of the month. Which THEN I will be in Seattle for Sakura Con (where will I even find the time to prepare for it?!) Baaah.

So I apologize for the lack of updates on Raindrops. And for those of you who are a part of the :iconsesskag:group there will be a pause in activity for a bit until I can get myself in a calmer state of my life. I am also sorry if my replies to notes or comments are slow. I only get about an hour or so each day at my personal laptop before I pass out.

On a side note, it's kind of strange working for a Japanese game company. In a way it's something that I've fantasized about as a career when I was a kid, drawing fun and cool stuff for games and working with Japanese people. I never seriously thought I'd get to do something like this, so in a way it's almost like a dream come true. But in reality, it's just a lot of me being very confused most of the time because I don't understand what anyone is saying, and hoping that whatever I do was what they meant and I don't offend anyone. Why do they even want me in their meetings?! It's in Japanese! And all the type on the screen is in Japanese!

They gave me programs to install on my work computer like Photoshop and Flash, which is cool...but it's in Japanese. Oh I know, I'll just change the language settings for it!... and I can't find where to change the preferences because oh yeah... all the buttons and menus are in Japanese.

I need Rosetta Stone.

Points Needed for SessKag Group!

Journal Entry: Sun Feb 19, 2012, 10:43 AM
EDIT! Soooo we actually reached the goal faster than I thought. haha. You guys are awesome. HOWEVER! We always still need more club funds for future prizes and club activities. So if you'd still like to donate that would be wonderful!

Sooo it's that time of year again. Our year has run out and we over at the :iconsesskag: group is running out of our super subscription that keeps our group running as smoothly and nice looking as possible! Of course we've been rather lucky throughout the year to be running on point donations from our members to distribute contest prizes all year long. But our subscription costs considerably more.

THE GOOD NEWS! Is that according to my account, we are actually VERY close to reaching the goal Point amount to renew the subscription.

THE BAD NEWS: We are about 1,000 points short of actually getting there.

SO! I would like to take this time to ask that for those of you who are a part of the group and would like to spare any amount of points (ANY AMOUNT! Even 1 would be wonderful!) I would be very grateful. Any and all Point donations are used for Group activities.

To donate, simply go on my main page, and click on the "Donate Points" button and enter the amount you would like to give.

Thanks in advance to those who are willing to spare a point or two!

PLAY IT! DO IT NOW PLZ!!

Journal Entry: Fri Feb 10, 2012, 10:00 AM
Hey, it's been a while since I've had a journal entry. You might be wondering what I've been up to lately.

Some of you might already know that I had lost my job at Meteor Games (Island Paradise, Neopets: Treasure Keepers, Serf Wars). In fact, everyone who worked there lost their jobs, because the company went under. The social gaming scene is a bloody and fierce place.

Despite the fall, it was truly a wonderful place to work, with the coolest most talented people, and I was very fortunate to have been a part of it. I walked away with nothing but good experiences and lifelong friends.

But not to worry! I have since found a new home at Konami Digital Entertainment... Their USA office! And I've been there since the turn of the year as their 2D/3D artist in their mobile games department. They are mostly known for their console games (Silent Hill, Metal Gear Solid, Dance Dance Revolution, Yu Gi Oh) but we've been trying to get on the social games scene.

So help us  out (And do me a huuuuuge favor! I'll draw extra Raindrops!) and play some of our games, tell us what you think!

:bulletgreen: Twilight Carnival [link]

:bulletgreen: Frogger Pinball [link]

Thanks a bunch and it would make me eternally grateful! (bows)

---

On another more grim note about the business:

It should be reminded that these social games are free to play. That means, a lot of game companies (most of the time small game developers) rely on the very few who love the games enough to spend actual money or credit for in game items. This is a very small percentage, so we need a lot of players coming through every day to up the chances of those who are willing to buy.

When Meteor Games went out of business there were those who became very angry, citing that companies were all about "money money money" and why couldn't they just make a game that's fun and free for people to play? But the TRUTH is that to the players it's just a "game". Something to entertain you for a few hours a day. But TO US it's a job. It's an income that we all rely on to pay bills and feed our families. It's health insurance and keeping a roof over our heads and IT'S PEOPLE'S LIVES. When the company went down, good people lost their jobs, and a good number are still struggling to find work.

NOTHING IS FOR FREE. And the reason why the games shut down or the companies go out of business is BECAUSE people won't support it financially, despite saying how much they "love it." It's not because we're lazy or because we want to troll you guys by making a fun game and then taking it away from you. A fun game does not always equal a profitable game. I know plenty of awesome, immersive games that just couldn't keep afloat, and others that are just pure crap but are good at getting you to spend money.

People have to be hired to program and code and illustrate and test those games that you enjoy! Nowadays, the quality of social games has also gone way up, but to keep the demands of high quality while still being free for the public is not an easy task.

(But Ads and other stuff pays for that right?! Uh, no. Ads help keep the SITE that the games are hosted on free. Just like they keep youtube, facebook and DEVIANTART free. The games themselves are put on by developers which are not a part of the site itself. They are different entities).

So please keep in mind when you're playing a game on facebook or Google+, or anything else that's similar that is free to play, to remember this fact. And even if you don't spend money, you guys just playing the game and coming back daily, MEANS THE WORLD TO US! :)

Thanks for listening to my ramble! I always felt it should be important on some level to talk about what I do and how things work.

....
play the games dammit XD

Livestream Lecture OFF!: Paneling/Compositions

Journal Entry: Mon Dec 19, 2011, 5:39 PM
LIVESTREAM OFF

~~Thanks everyone who joined me! I found out tonight that I'm a lousy teacher, but I tried right?

Did everyone who participated learn something? Don't hesitate to tell me what I can do to improve or certain things you wanted to know but I didn't get to!

Also, if you missed the livestream, but still want to know what was discussed, don't fret! It's been recorded. Just visit my livestream channel and click on the video labeled "Compositions_Panels"

Based on the responses that I got from my last journal, I will be doing Livestream Lectures. Starting with: Compositions and Comic Paneling at 7:00 pm, pacific time tonight.

The livestream will include:

- Tutorials
- Discussions
- Tips
- Do's and Don'ts
- Application
- Questions and Answers in real time
- Anything else that comes up

Turn up your volumes for this one because I will be talking with viewers in the chatroom via microphone.

This is by no means one of those livestreams that you just watch me draw something pretty. This livestream is meant to help those who are genuinely interested in learning how to improve their craft. So I encourage those who have an interest in the subject(s) to attend.

Livestream has a limit of 50 viewers, so if you want to reserve a spot for when the stream comes, go into the chatroom before 7 here:

[link]

If you find yourself unable to view the stream because the limit has already been reached, don't worry, you can still stick around and chat. People leave and enter the channel frequently, so the minute that a spot opens and you happen to be next on the waiting list, you will be able to view the stream automatically.

IMPORTANT! Because there is a chance the channel fills up, if you find yourself in the channel  and consequently realize that you are not interested, please be considerate and leave so that someone who DOES want to learn can participate in the lecture. Thank you for your consideration! :)

Some quick rules in the chatroom:

- Please be courteous to everyone in the stream
- If you are going to ask me a question, please address me first so that I know that I know that your comment is not directed at someone else in the chatroom
- If I do not answer your question it is either because it got lost in the comments or I didn't catch it.
- Don't be afraid to ask questions. I prefer it!
- You do not have to sign up for livestream in order to participate in the chat! When it prompts you, just type in a screen name for the chatroom and you're in!

Come and join me!

"What if I miss the livestream?!" Not to worry, the stream will be recorded and saved on my channel library so you can come back at any time and watch it ^.^ You just won't be able to ask my questions in real time is all.

Livestreaming Lectures?

Journal Entry: Mon Dec 19, 2011, 1:37 PM
So I've been getting back into Livestreaming lately but I was wondering that beyond just drawing or whatever it is that I do and you guys just watching me if there's anything you'd want to get out of it. Would any of you be more interested if the livestreams were more oriented on tips and discussions on how to do certain things? More tutorial in nature over subjects that you actually want to learn? I know that at least for me, whenever I want to watch another artist work I'm studying them on how I can better improve myself, and being able to ask questions and getting them answered in real time is a big help.

A couple of subjects that I thought about doing them on are:

- Compositions
- Paneling in comics
- Grayscale and toning
- Cel coloring
- lighting
- Animation in Flash
- Coloring in Flash
- Character Designs
- Character Studies (such as character moods and posing)
- Story
....

And so on and so forth.

Mainly I want to go beyond just discussing what you can do to make your work look pretty, but to actually emotionally connect with your viewers. I've always felt that an emotional response from your audience is much more important than the aesthetic of your work, and that as long as you get that aspect first, finessing your art and making it visually appealing falls naturally. And little things you can do with color and compositioning are relatively easy to portray these things but not many know about or consciously think about them.

Would any of you be interested?

If so, what would you like to learn about most?

If not, what subjects WOULD you want to know more about?

I mean, it's fun if you want to just talk to me and watch me draw. My request based livejournals are always fun. But I am curious to know if there's anyone out there who is actually interested in learning or sharing techniques and insights.

Thoughts?

Livestream+Chat OFF!

Journal Entry: Wed Dec 14, 2011, 6:14 PM
LIVESTREAM OFF!!

Turn up your volumes for this one because I will be on the microphone chatting with you if you have questions!

Come and watch me clean up and tone a Raindrops Page. WARNING! Obviously it's spoileriffic so if you don't want to ruin it for yourself and would rather wait until I post up new pages here... well, don't come. There is a limit of 50 viewers only, so it's first come first serve!

:bulletred: [link]

If you find yourself unable to view the stream because the limit has already been reached, don't worry, you can still stick around and chat. People leave and enter the channel frequently, so the minute that a spot opens and you happen to be next on the waiting list, you will be able to view the stream automatically.

As usual I expect everyone to be courteous in the chat room! Either to each other or to me. :)

A Note About Raindrops.

Journal Entry: Sun Nov 13, 2011, 11:06 PM
  • Mood: Optimism
So, the cover page of Raindrops 07 has gone up, which means updates are coming soon.

But before everyone starts spazzing out I feel like I need to make a couple of reminders, as I always have to do once in a while regarding this fancomic.

I am deeply appreciative to everyone who supports and has followed this doujinshi, especially for those who have done so since it's inception waaaay back in 2005. Every other comment or note that I ever get from you guys asks about "Raindrops". I'm always happy and flattered that so many people like it, and the fact that they keep asking means they love it.

BUT there's "asking", and then there's rudely "demanding". And so:

1) This doujinshi is done FOR FUN.

-Which means I do it for MYSELF first and foremost, and it's for MY ENJOYMENT. If people happen to enjoy it with me then that's great. Which means, I do not DO IT FOR YOU, so don't demand it from me like you're entitled to it, like I have some obligation to please you. Approaching me with rage and threats does not endear me to you either. You'd be surprised how many people approach me this way.

2) I have a life outside of "Raindrops"

-You know, like everyone else. I have a job, and bills and family and friends that also happen to occupy my time. And frankly, as much as I love Sesshomaru and Kagome, they're not the only thing I like to draw. So if artwork goes up that isn't Raindrops related and you throw a tantrum (and some do) please remember that I could care less. :)

3) I am doing this FOR FREE

- Yup. No one pays me to do this. And I don't make any money off of it. There are no printings of this doujinshi and it's online for everyone's viewing pleasure. This is not my job. It's my hobby. So unless you plan on throwing money at me to update it, don't try to act like my boss.

4) It takes a lot longer to make it than for you to read it.

- Seriously, a fancomic doesn't just "happen". At least for me, it takes planning. I have to write it, and then make a script. Then there's thumbnailing the pages, and then actually sketching out the pages. And after that, there's clean up, then scanning and corrections and toning. Let's not forget adding bubbles and text and then formatting it and taking the time to post it with all of the proper links so you can have an easier time reading it. It takes me hours, days, and weeks for me to make it, and it only takes YOU 5 seconds to read it. Give me a minute, kay?

5) "When will you update Raindrops?"

-Which is what this all comes down to and my most frequently asked question. And the answer? Along with all of the above? "Whenever I feel like it."

6) When are Kagome and Sesshomaru going to hook up?!

- If there's one thing I've learned, it's that the Author knows what's good for the story, and that the readers don't really know what they want. Again, I am doing this story to please myself, not the fans. If I wanted that, I'd write friggin' "Twilight". Raindrops is not meant to be purely fanservice, and I have said many times before that if you're expecting a make out session two chapters in, this is not the doujinshi for you. The more I write it, the more the characters write themselves. Kagome and Sesshomaru will tell me when they're ready.

7) JUST BECAUSE I DO NOT UPDATE IN A LONG TIME DOES NOT MEAN THAT RAINDROPS IS ABANDONED!

- This is my longest running project, and I know the first thing people thing when they don't see me update in a while is that I've given up on it. It's safe to say that with Raindrops, this is not going to happen. For those of you who have been following Raindrops from the beginning, you'll all know that it's rather typical to get a chapter a year. Once again, life interferes. Isn't it pesky?

Also, some people talk to me like I have some deep-rooted depression issues when I don't update, like the frequency of my postings reflect how happy I am with life. Please don't talk down to me like I'm some kind of emo child. I know you're trying to help me like some kind of counselor  trying to save me from suicide, but to me, it just sounds preachy and condescending. I don't update because I am depressed. It's because I'm busy with other things.

I know this journal entry is loaded with sarcasm and is Rant-like in nature, but that's only because ALL OF THIS HAPPENS. A lot. And it's grown to be quite the pet peeve.

BUT! With all of that said, I would like to end this note with a big THANK YOU to those who are patient, and who continue to follow this doujinshi. It really does make me happy to know that even after so many years people are still quite passionate about Kagome and Sesshomaru's story, and are willing to endure the terrible artwork (oh gawd, the early chapters... they burn my eyes) to see it through. It's also always satisfying to know that "Raindrops" converts a lot of fans to Sess/Kag. I am extremely fortunate to have so many loyal viewers, and hope to never disappoint.

Thank you all once again! *bows*

**As a side note, Chapter 07 is sketched out but needs to be cleaned up. I will try to average about a page a week. There are about 33 pages in all for the "Obon" chapter.

Raindrops itself is planned for at least 10 chapters total, including the ones already posted.

There are also plans for a post "Raindrops" doujinshi lasting for at least 5 chapters. A tentative name for that series will be "Rainy Days"

Hey Everyone! The company that I work for, Meteor Games, just officially launched one of our newest games: Serf Wars! Everyone on the team worked really hard, and it really shows! Really is a gorgeous game. Check it out on facebook!

[link]

Manage your own kingdom! Command sorcerers, dragons, and all sorts of creatures! Declare war or alliance with your neighbors, build your army, and gain cool stuff through mini games!

And no, I am not giving it praise just because I work for this company, it really is fun and great to look at! I'm so proud of everyone's hard work!

In an unrelated note, apparently my name appears in the credits for "Captain America," which I am super confused by since when I worked for StereoD back in December, I only did worked on like...one scene compared to the couple that I did for "Thor". And despite that, I didn't get my name on THAT movie. lol. oh well.
